It was a hot day in Calgary and everyone was at the Calgary Zoo! Including all the guests for Peggy and Dave’s Wedding! This was the first full wedding day I’ve been to since the many rounds of Covid-19 lockdowns on 2020. I was excited to get to attend a reception!
Peggy and Dave had been holding off on their big day hoping to be able to have beloved family and friends present to witness this union and the many prayers were answered. Peggy’s daughter came in from San Diego and her and her little daughter did the full 14 day quarantine in order to present. So much love in this family unit. The Calgary Zoo was a lovely intimate setting for a wedding. They have private spaces to conduct the ceremony and the Grazer’s Restaurant was closed for the private event. There is a separate parking lot for those attending events and lovely staff to help you find the location of the wedding you are attending. Thumbs up to the Calgary Zoo Weddings staff for providing great service and delicious food for the reception.
First up was a special daddy and daughter first look with Peggy’s 84 year old father. What a fanatics and funny riot this man was. He teaches kung fu and chatted endlessly with me about his former career as a photographer. He is very special to Peggy’s heart and every moment with him had me tearing up as I am very close with my own father.
There is something so special about the second time around weddings that have an air of special gratitude to have found love all over again. Plus those special moments with children, grandchildren and parents. There was so many generations of celebration on at this Calgary wedding.
I had been a little worried when I first arrived at the Calgary Zoo because of the crowd’s of people and where we were going to find a quiet spot to get some epic bridal portraits, but I needn’t have worried. The zoo closed at 5pm and when it came time to nip out of the reception for those glory sunset moment, the zoo was empty and we had the beautiful gardens to just Peggy, Dave and myself. Those quiet moments for a new husband and wife are just bliss.
Then onto the formailites of the evening and all those lovely traditions that make for a great reception. After a romantic husband and wife dance, Peggy pulled her father onto the dance floor and surprised him with ‘Everyone was Kung Fu Fighting’ and everyone had a great laugh!
A special thanks to Peggy and Dave who found me at the Airdrie Shop Local Facebook page, which is an amazing support to Airdrie small businesses like myself. I had such a fantastic time getting to know the many characters of these beautiful families and am excited to see what the future holds for them!
